Project Overview
Construction Management for the addition of a 1,000 m2 new building space as well as the fit of the existing level 2 shelled space above the emergency room to create a new mental health medical unit to the west of the Emergency department, the primary purpose of which is to develop necessary space to provide a appropriate and safe place for patients with a mental health diagnosis, often in an acute phase of illness, to receive medical care, enabling patients to receive care in an environment designed to manage specialized needs. Key goals are to provide culturally appropriate care, including Indigenization opportunities, provide a space that supports projected future volumes and complexity of patients, have the flexibility to support the evolution of mental wellness care needs through flexible patient zoning capabilities and flexible treatment spaces; establish a secure outdoor space and a First Nations healing space, create both treatment and common areas to support daily treatment, activities, and routines for patients, and provide flexible segregation capabilities to support a diverse patient population safely and respectfully.
